"Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first."

Simon Sinek

A pandemic, soaring inflation and the lowest unemployment rate in over 50 years...it's an apocalyspe of mega proportions.

We're throwing money at the dilemma in the form of higher wages; and while that's a much deserved need of employees a bigger dilemma is brewing in the background.

Money can't buy happiness, but it's great for a short-term rental.  We can't "Air B&B" our way out of this malaise.  So like a good doctor, let's first examine the symptoms with a notion to fix their cause.

A recent survey by found the number one reason people quit their job was a toxic company culture. Here's a list of 12 other reasons people are saying adios:

  • No remote work options
  • Burnout
  • Not allowing flexible schedules
  • Limited advancement & career progression
  • Lack of or poor benefits
  • Limited PTO or sick time
  • Poor mental health support
  • Long-term job stability
  • Amount of travel required
  • Lack of diversity, equity & inclusion
  • Lack of connection to the company mission
  • COVID vaccine requirement

If you read my last missive you'll recall that the most important thing on workers minds today is wellness. The above 12 bullet points comprise a good list of symptons that in combination are a fair representation of wellness. Treating the cause of those symptoms is the mission for members of the C-Suite.

However, if a culture is already positioned to allow change of this magnitude to be heard from the ranks and bubble up from the bottom of the org chart... then cool, send me an application. I wanna work there!

It's a task of massive proportions, a sea of change that will require creative thought and likely unconventional solutions that will push us all outside of our comfort zones. Here's an example to help you get started.

If it was easy everybody would already be doing it. But that's why they pay you the big bucks...isn't it?

Of course, this is only my opinion, but it's one I value highly.
